Prehistoric pottery sherds with sculptured and engraved decorations were uncovered at the location of Kayaril yerler yeri (Petrotopos), east of Komotini and north of the modern village of Arriana.
The excavations carried out in the 1960’s revealed a roman bathhouse and a table support, or trapezophoros, with a statuette of Aphrodite dating to the 2nd century AD, now on exhibit in the Komotini Archaeological Museum.
